Trench Free Water Line Repair
Trenchless water line repair and replacement is an effective way to install water lines across anyone’s property without disturbing the landscape for creating trenches where potential utilities can break. As a leading trenchless water line repair company, we have seen that the number one reason why water line replacements are common in our area has a lot to do with pipes installed many years ago.
Replace Galvanized Pipe in Your Home
This is the most common pipe you will find from the front of the house to the water meter or to the sidewalk. Galvanized pipes needs replacement for a reason. Galvanized pipe has a lifespan of about 40 years. Within those 40 years the inside of the pipe becomes rusted. This results in diminishing water pressure. Mineral deposits are the most common problem with galvanized pipes. When it gets old, galvanized pipes break from the inside out. Sometimes the soil is very damp around the pipe causing damage and eventually causing a failure. A good way to know when it’s time for the water line repair is when the exposed galvanized pipe shows a dark brown color in the pipe itself. Also, it will start flaking off pieces of metal. A good way to check is to dig around and under the dirt level by the main shutoff valve. Freedom Underground Plumbing can go to your house, or commercial business, and check the condition and advise whether or not you need a water line replacement.
Water Line Repair for Copper Pipe
Copper pipe is the most common pipe found inside your home. Once in awhile you will find copper to be installed underground. Copper pipes frequently fall under water line repair instead of replacement because the water line can be easily changed or repaired. Typical problems occur when joints are not soldered correctly and combined with pressure. The age causes a failure to the copper pipe. Sometimes when the water has too many minerals it can also be affected from the inside out. Freedom Underground Plumbing always recommends to replace your main water line with plastic or HDPE. It’s non corrosive and has a lifespan longer than metal.
The most common way for water line repair and replacement will be to use pneumatic bore technology. We can install a new water line for distances up to 50 feet. The system is the most common in the Bay Area. This is because most properties have their main water supply in front of their houses. This method can replace or install new water lines up to 3 to 4 feet in diameter. For distances longer than 50 feet, we recommend other technologies for trenchless water line replacement.
The second most effective way to install a new water line would be to use directional drilling technology. This is recommended for water lines that are located far away from the front of the house. When they are located in places where properties share easements and difficult terrains. Freedom Underground Plumbing always recommends to have the property checked first before recommending this system. We want to make sure you are not intruding in someone else’s property. Directional drilling technology is also great in mountainous areas where the soil is very tough and difficult to navigate.
